Karrie Amiton
I know I’m finished with a body of work when I move on to something new. I tend to move from idea to idea, save some, move on or discard. That for me is the beauty of observation, of discovery and re-thinking my personal creative path.
At the moment, I have gone back to painting on glass because the saturated color makes me happy. I’ve instinctively invented various techniques confusing the viewer in to wondering “how did she do that?”. Well, no one taught me. Impulsive decisions account for a lot of “what if I try this?” and makes me an outsider with this medium. Afterall, it’s just an acrylic painting on the backside of the glass, painted backwards, reversing the layers of darks and lights - with acrylic paint. I also paint on canvas, currently experimenting with collage paintings using torn pieces from prints of my own artwork, adding Sumi ink, charcoal and oil pastel. For me, creating new work is about analysis of old work hopefully applying fresh, new, bold solutions. |
