Janet Amundson-Splidsboel
I primarily paint with molten, pigmented beeswax; this is called Encaustic painting. I use various sizes of brushes and paint entirely with layers of wax, using a propane torch to fuse each new layer of molten pigmented beeswax into the underneath layers. (My encaustic method does not include mixed media in the painting). One of my completed paintings could have as many as 20 or more layers of beeswax fused together with the propane torch.
I began painting late in life, following a career in business. My father and brother were both architects so as a youngster I was influenced by watching them produce wonderful drawings. After years of pursuing a career not related to art I am now in an especially peaceful and fulfilled state doing what I believe I was ultimately meant to do. My artistic goal for 2021 is to further develop my figurative encaustic style, with an emphasis on experimentation. I also plan to produce more floral/landscape paintings. I am a juried member of the Lake Area Artists in Lake Oswego, Oregon Society of Artists, and Watercolor Society of Oregon. My art can be seen at Art in the Village Gallery in Multnomah, OR and I can be contacted through the gallery. |
